Travel Photographers of the Year 2008

Massimo Cristaldi Fotografie, Premi Lascia un Commento

The Travel Photographer of the Year contest has announced the list of winning, special mentioned and shortlisted photographers. I’m glad to communicate that my photograph “Ground Zero“, part of the Impressions of NYC project,  won the Travel Photographer of the Year 2008 Contest in the category Destination Anywhere.

Judges verdict on the photographs is:

Massimo’s engaging shot of the view over Ground Zero in New York captures a sense of place in the most thought provoking and graphic way. Harsh lighting and simplicity create a strong sense of both drama and serenity.

Travel Photographer of the Year, at his 5th edition, received circa 10.000 entries from photographers in 61 countries, and shortlisted entrants from 33 countries went through to the final judging round. I’ve got a special mention in “Call of the Wild” category and been shorlisted in”Life“. Category winners for 2008 come from Australia, Italy, the UK and USA, with photographers from Kenya, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland among the other prizewinners. This year’s judging panel included Caroline Metcalfe (Picture Editor, Conde Nast Traveller), Ian Farrell (Editor, Professional Photographer), renowned wildlife photographer and author Chris Weston, Erin Moroney (head of Axiom photographic agency), photographer and TV cameraman Jeremy Hoare, Simon Bainbridge (Editor, British Journal of Photography), photographer, author and lecturer Nick Meers, and imaging experts Mark Bannister and Terry Steeley.

The winning images will be displayed at the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition at Focus on Imaging, on of Europe’s largest imaging show, in February 2009. They will also be published in the TPOTY Journey Three book. Winners Gallery is visible here.
